The Bald And The Beautiful
July 12th, 2012 // 2:41 pm @ Coach Erik
Coach Erik here:
Freshmen year in college I started losing my hair. I spent the next few years experimenting with various hairstyles the most notable being a funky Eddie Munster greased back style (not the best look for Coach E!)
Ultimately I began “hiding” under my baseball cap, which I wore every time I left the house. While my 20 year old machismo worked hard to be front and center at all times, I was big time ashamed and insecure about my “flaw.”
Have you ever felt this way about a particular part of your body?
The game changing moment came on the last day of senior week. A women (who I had met once two years prior) came up to me at a party, took off my baseball cap looked me in the eyes and said, “You are bald, and you are beautiful on the inside and outside Erik. “Don’t ever forget that.” Those words spoke to my soul that day and have helped me learn to love myself unconditionally in the years since.
My message to you today is simple: You are perfect in your imperfection. You are flawed and you are beautiful. Nothing needs to change for you to be more lovable.
I burned my baseball cap that day and have paraded my beautiful bald dome ever since.
Is there something you need to let go of today?

Erik
